A few things stopped me in my tracks this afternoon, just little things that made me think of what and who and where we were back in the 60s and 70s.While watching Jeopardy tonight I was able to get the correct question to the answer: who was killed in a freak accident in 1921 when her scarf caught in the wheel of a car?
It was Isadora Duncan.
One of my favorite films from 1968 starring Vanessa Redgrave.
Mind you, I was rather 'green' during my first years in America. Meeting Puri was an adventure in the absolute unknown and weird. On our first date we went and saw 2001 Space Odyssey. I mostly didn't understand much of the language, let alone the concept of the film, but hey!
After taking me to see Psycho on a second date, (we never finished watching, because it scared the bejezus out of me) we saw Isadora.
Although it was a pretty strange movie for me, )who was used to funny movies, and stuff like West Side Story and Sound of Music,) the acting and the story of this dancer were fascinating to me, I loved it! Something about Vanessa doing a pretty convincing job of portraying this person. The amazing stuff Isadora did in her life, her dance style, her character, the absolute tragic way she lost her children, and her own horrid death. I wish they had this film on DVD. I would love to see it again.
And Wheelie ordering and watching Jules & Jim the other day. Talk about a blast from the past!
Gawd, we were in a different world. Another movie Puri dragged me to see.

A few weeks ago I found a really cool website where you can exchange books with others.
www.paperbackswap.com
Check it out, it's neat!
Wheelie handed me a few of HIS books to list. I didn't get around to list them until today.
Ever heard of Immanuel Velikovsky???
While writing down the contents of the books I realized that my man has come a long way.
He turned from an avant garde/pony tailed, bearded, pipe smoking, weed smoking, intellectual hippie into the conventional, quiet fellow he is today.
Perhaps he was basically a conventional person to begin with, but just got caught up in the Berkeley/Oakland maelstrom of the 1960s? Being in the record business?
He sure has met some interesting people in his day. Back when he worked at a local record store in Berkeley, one of his co-workers was a fellow named Phil Dick. Yes! The science fiction author of Blade Runner fame. Wheelie still has a small spiral notebook with a story typed by Phil. It's tucked away in our safe.
It made me wonder if he regrets ever marrying this straight (in more ways than one) Dutch girl, liberal as she is. I mean, I'm a far cry from the other women in his past, an even further cry from the kind of life he lived.
Strange how couples eventually adjust to each other, and become twins basically.
I guess we've both come a long way. So many roads have been taken, so many stories, so many people in and out of our lives.
So why is it that we're now stuck in a place we really don't want to be? We're both in a rut, some would say: it's your dharma, your lives are exactly the way they are supposed to be....but I wonder....
The book swap site has been fun for me. I've been able to get my hands on a bunch of old Richard Scarry books from the 1970s. In pretty much perfect condition. By getting rid of our own old books, we can build up a library for Boo.

The claim adjuster from my insurance company stopped by today and took pictures, told us to get a few estimates, and see where it would take us. Our deductible is $1000.
I'm hoping it will cost less than that, geesh.
But the one contractor who came by didn't see a huge amount of trouble. Two more to go, and we'll see how much it's gonna cost.
Perhaps is isn't as bad as we thought.

Boo is learning the words of the Elmo song and the I Love You/Barnie song. Every day she remembers more words, it's amazing!
I got her a bunch of Sesame Street little toys on eBay, and threw them in a box, for her to discover. She was delighted and played with them all day long!
