Okay....so y'all know I am a pretty liberal democrat...a bit on the socialistic side...pro-choice...pro gay marriage....anti gun...and all that
I really really surprised myself by my reaction to the news that McCain had picked Sarah Palin as his VP. (being so darn tolerant and stuff)
I am big on first impressions. I can pretty much tell - sense - feel - what a person is like.
Usually I'm pretty right on the money with my feelings.
So my first impression of Sarah Palin was:
WHAT???
WHO????
A NRA/gun toting/hockey mom/pro life/ultra conservative with FIVE kids, one of which is a special needs child. (How they kept that child asleep through the entire convention I don't know)
What is this woman doing, trying out for being a heartbeat away from the presidency of the USA?
Should her priority not be: staying a hockey mom, and taking care of those 5 kids? Okay, be the governor of Alaska, or the mayor of a small town (I read she only needed about 1000 votes to win)
Oh I know...women need to break that glass ceiling...women are as good as men...I get all that...but...shouldn't you be just a tad more experienced for this particular job? Shouldn't your priority be to be a Mom?
Perhaps I am being short sighted here. Perhaps she has a slew of nannies and maids and tons of money to take care of her family, so she can take on this very important job...
Perhaps her husband will quit his business and become the house-husband...
Perhaps I can't swallow the fact that she is a card carrying member of the NRA....or anti abortion...or thinks sex education doesn't not belong in schools, the only option is abstinence?
Ahem.....(cough)
Her 17 year old daughter is 5 months pregnant. OK...fine...this fact should have been dealt with by a swift memo to the media, and a stern warning that this subject was NOT up for discussion.
No....they tell the world that these 17 year olds plan to marry...which makes it all OK...heck, the poor boy even got to join them at the convention, shown on TV and in the paper and on the internet getting hugged by McCain.
If I were that boy, I would be scared pissless at all that attention..
I mean: talk about your PRESSURE!
I've been reading several interesting ed-ops in the paper, and online.
There are a few very serious questions one should ask about Mrs. Palin...
can you say: double standard?....You wonder what his motive is to have an even less experienced person on his ticket.
Have I lost you yet?
:>)
You get my drift, don't you?
I wonder what this ticket is going to promise the American people tonight. How they are going to solve our immense problems.
Scares me to death....
SGMKJ!

RIGHT on SISTER!!! Get oil out of Alaska? Don't we ever get it?
Just because she wears a skirt and doesn't have a penis doesn't make her a replacement for Hillary. If the first woman to actually make the ticket is Palin, I just shiver. I value that she lives out her beliefs. But I don't want her guiding policies that will throw us backwards in time, or potentially being the President. I may not be a wild advocate of Obama / Biden, but my stomach says I'm totally allergic to Palin. I think McCain is an honorable man and a good man and a genuine hero, but I think he's too much of a geezer to take on the job of President after the wear and tear his body took in Vietnam. It was a courageous choice to select Palin but she's way, way, WAY too Concervative for me. She makes Bush look like a Socialist. The world laughs enough at the US these days. I'd like the world to respect us again. Imagine a world where the President of the US is named Obama!!!! I hope if he gets in office, he gives Hillary a plumb job like Ambasador to the UN or something. Though she's doing a handy job for the people of NY state. Obama may not be able to like her as a person, but she stepped up to the plate and really supported him at the DNC.
It will be interesting in the years to come. My students at school say that if Obama gets elected he WILL be assinated. THAT scares me more than our country being run by a multiethnic person.
